What’s In A Name?
Luke 2:21 (HCSB) When the eight days were completed for His circumcision, He was named JESUS—the name given by the angel before He was conceived.
The “fragrance of Christ” in this verse would be the smell of a baby. Sometimes sweet and innocent, sometimes, er, not so sweet. There’s that fresh baby powder scent.
Jesus. The baby born was named Jesus.
Jesus was the Greek version of the Hebrew name Joshua. And it means “one who saves.” The angel said to name him Jesus because “He will save his people from their sins.” Jesus came to save. What an amazing thought. This helpless baby, dependant on Mary and Joseph for everything… and he was sent to save the world.
It is the real story of Christmas! The story of a baby come to grow to save the world. It is the ultimate action adventure hero story. Humble baby born in a stable grows up to fight evil and against all odds seeks to save the world – and He succeeds! Only God could create such a great story and it not be fiction.
Questions for Discussion
What can we do to share the salvation message at Christmas?
How can we remind ourselves of this great salvation we have?
Prayer
Dear God, thank you for sending Jesus to save us. Amen
