Abraham, The Man of Promise

Genesis 12:1-3

Abraham, a man of faith was given a promise. That promise was fulfilled in Jesus.

God’s promise to Abraham was to go out and God would create a great nation and bless all the peoples of the earth through Abraham. Little did Abraham know that the Messiah would come from his offspring. The baby born in the manger came because Abraham by faith obeyed God.

Adam, The First Man

Genesis 1-3; Romans 5:12-21

We all know the story of Adam- the first man. God created Adam and then Eve and gave them the run of the garden, save one tree that they were not to eat the fruit thereof. Adam and Eve disobeyed (we won’t get into the whole Adam listening to Eve argument) and were cast out of the garden and sin entered the world. Fast forward to the New Testament…

Paul says that sin entered the world through this one man, Adam.

Adam brought sin, Jesus brings acquittal. Romans 5:12, 18

Adam brought death; Jesus brought resurrection. 1 Corinthians 15:21

Adam became a living being; Jesus became a life-giving Spirit. 1 Corinthians 15:45

Adam represents old humanity, Jesus represents humanity as God intended.

Adam is our father, and we follow after his footsteps, but without the hope of Christmas we are all doomed to remain on the outside of the garden without relationship with God. We celebrate Christmas because it brought us the new Adam.
